Where we can, we'd rather deal with the source directly, which means speaking to the body corporate or managing agent about treating the stack or the neighbouring unit itself, not just yours. If you can put us in touch with whoever manages the building, we'll raise it with them.

For anything inside your own flat, no. For duct access points, roof-level pipework or a building-wide drain treatment, generally yes, since that's common property. We'll tell you plainly which part of the job is yours to approve and which part needs the trustees or the managing agent, so you're not caught having agreed to something you can't authorise.

It's still worth doing, because a treated unit with sealed entry points is harder to move into than an untreated one, and you'll see the numbers drop. But if the source flat or the shared drain stays untreated, expect the problem to keep testing your defences rather than disappearing outright. That's why we always ask about the wider building before we quote just one door.
